Chapter 14 - The Unwelcome Visitor

Julian walked to the front door, glancing through the security monitor. His brow furrowed in disbelief.

Standing on the porch was not a delivery driver, but Harrison Cole. The slick attorney looked visibly defeated, his tailored suit rumpled, holding a thick registered parcel.

Julian opened the door halfway, blocking the entrance. ""You have sixty seconds before I call the local sheriff for violating the restraining order via an agent, Cole.""

""I am no longer Mrs. Vance’s attorney, Julian,"" Cole said, his voice flat, stripped of all previous arrogance. ""She fired me last week when I refused to file another frivolous complaint against the board. I am here purely as an independent executor of your grandfather’s hidden estate.""

Amy walked up behind Julian, carrying Leo on her hip. ""What hidden estate?""

Cole looked down at the infant, guilt flashing in his eyes. ""Before your grandfather passed away, he suspected Eleanor would eventually attempt to disinherit Julian or abuse the family trust. He created an off-shore trust designated exclusively for Julian's firstborn child upon reaching four months of age.""

Cole handed the parcel to Julian. ""It contains full ownership deed to the Vance ancestral estate—the very house Eleanor currently resides in. By your grandfather’s law, Leo is the sole owner of the manor. Eleanor is merely a tenant at the discretion of the child's guardians.""

Julian and Amy exchanged a stunned look. The iron fortress that Eleanor had used to cage and torment them now legally belonged to the infant she had tried to discard.
