Chapter 14 - The Fall of the Empire

Julian looked into Liam’s eyes and realized there was no mercy left in the man. The gentle, diplomatic CEO who had walked down the aisle hours earlier was gone, replaced by a ruthless protector. Julian glanced toward his pilot, but the pilot had already turned away, shutting down the jet engines to avoid being implicated in federal extortion.

""Fine!"" Julian spat, his hands trembling violently. He snatched the satellite phone connected to Clara’s laptop and spoke into the receiver with a cracked, defeated voice: ""Authorization code: Vance-Omega-Seven-Seven-Nine.""

On the laptop screen, the red timer halted. A green confirmation banner flashed across the display: WIRE TRANSFER REVERSED. FUNDS RETURNED TO ORIGINATING ESCROW.

At that exact moment, four black SUVs with flashing red and blue lights tore across the runway, tires screeching as they formed a tight semi-circle around the Gulfstream jet. Federal agents poured out, weapons drawn, badges gleaming in the gray dawn light.

""Julian Vance, you are under arrest for corporate fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit murder, and interstate extortion,"" an agent announced over a loudspeaker.

Julian didn't fight. He dropped his briefcase, sinking to his knees on the cold tarmac as agents moved in to handcuff him. Liam stepped back, watching the patriarch of the Vance family being led away in shame. The nightmare was finally over. The poison that had infiltrated his home was completely excised.

Liam turned to Clara. The morning sun was just beginning to break through the heavy clouds, casting golden rays across the tarmac. She looked exhausted, her hair slightly disheveled, but she offered him a soft, genuine smile. ""It's done, Liam. It's really over.""

""Not quite,"" Liam said softly, looking at her with a depth of gratitude and realization he had never felt before. ""I have to bring my daughter home.""
