Chapter 1 - The Spilled Secret

The sterile silence of the luxury penthouse kitchen was shattered only by the hum of high-end appliances and the sharp, piercing echo of a child’s voice. Mr. Moretti stood frozen, a white ceramic cup of dark coffee hovering inches from his lips, his dark eyes locked onto the little girl in star-patterned pajamas. The maid, trembling beside her, looked as though she had seen a ghost, her hands flying to her mouth to stifle a cry of sheer panic. Moretti’s mind raced; the words echoed ominously in the air, stirring memories he had tried to bury for years. Without a word, he lowered the cup to the marble counter, his gaze shifting from the frightened maid to the innocent face of the child holding her grey stuffed bunny. He leaned down, his imposing frame softening slightly as he demanded an explanation, his voice a low, tense growl. As the little girl innocently repeated that the brew smelled just like the medicine her father drank before he went to sleep forever, a chilling realization gripped his spine, turning his blood cold.
