Chapter 6 - The Neon Labyrinth

The rain poured relentlessly over the city streets as Moretti’s sleek black sedan tore through the industrial district toward the abandoned shipping yards by the bay. In the passenger seat, a tracking tablet pinged furiously, tracing the encrypted signal of a panic button Moretti had secretly sewn into the lining of the little girl’s star-patterned pajamas. He pulled the vehicle into a screeching halt behind a stack of rusted shipping containers, stepping out into the biting wind with his weapon drawn and safety off. The cavernous hangar loomed ahead, illuminated intermittently by flashes of lightning and the sputtering neon signs of a nearby harbor crane. Peering through a cracked side door, he spotted Victor Vance standing near a stack of cargo crates, flanked by two armed mercenaries holding the terrified child. Moretti took a silent breath, melting into the shadows of the doorway, calculating his angles for a rescue operation that left zero room for error.
