Chapter 11 - The Boardroom Ambush

The headquarters of Sterling Global Logistics occupied the top three floors of the tallest glass skyscraper in the city’s financial district. At 2:00 PM, the boardroom doors swung open to reveal twelve senior executives and three visiting board members representing the allied families.
Marian Sterling entered first, leaning on Julian’s arm, her regal presence commanding total silence. But the real shockwave hit when Elena walked in behind them, completely composed, taking the center seat at the mahogany conference table.
A portly man with silver hair and a heavy gold watch—David Albright, head of Albright Maritime—scoffed audibly. ""What is the meaning of this charade, Julian? Beatrice is in federal holding, the stocks are dropping ten points, and you bring a stranger into a closed-door board meeting?""
""She isn't a stranger, David,"" Marian spoke, her voice carrying an authority that silenced the room. ""She is Camille’s only child. Elena Vance Sterling.""
Pendelton, the attorney, placed a stack of notarized DNA test results and certified trusts before each board member. ""As of midnight, Miss Sterling holds voting control over forty-two percent of this company. Every seat at this table serves at her pleasure.""
Murmurs and panicked whispers broke out. Albright slammed his palms onto the wood. ""Absurd! A street rat running an international shipping conglomerate? The Allied Board will not ratify this!""
Elena leaned forward, interlocking her fingers. Her gaze pinned Albright to his chair.
""You won't ratify it, Mr. Albright?"" Elena asked, her voice silky and calm. ""Perhaps you'd prefer to discuss the shell company in Panama—Albright Logistics Ltd—which received four million dollars from Beatrice’s accounts last Tuesday?""
Albright’s face flushed purple. He choked on his words, glancing around the table for support, but the other members quickly avoided his eyes.

""I might not know your high-society etiquette,"" Elena continued, standing up slowly. ""But I know how supply chains work. And I know a thief when I see one. You're dismissed from this board, effective immediately.""
Albright sneered, backing away toward the door. ""You think you're clever, girl. But you just signed your own death warrant.""
