Chapter 7 - The Red Container Yard

The port of Havenport was a labyrinth of steel shipping containers stacked five high, creating concrete canyons shrouded in thick sea fog. The rain poured relentlessly, drowning out the distant hum of the harbor horns.

Julian killed the headlights half a mile out, coasting the SUV behind an abandoned crane. They moved on foot through the shadows, Julian drawing a sleek, silenced sidearm, while Elena kept low, observing the perimeter.

Floodlights washed the administrative building fifty yards ahead. Outside the glass entrance sat Beatrice’s white luxury sedan, its hazard lights blinking rhythmically. Three armed guards patrolled the perimeter with assault rifles.

""The server room is on the second floor,"" Julian whispered, leaning close to Elena under the cover of a rusted blue container. ""She's already inside running the wipe sequence. It takes roughly fifteen minutes to scrub twenty years of digital records.""

""We can't walk past three rifles,"" Elena observed, squinting through the rain. Her eyes tracked an overhead overhead gantry crane linked to the power grid. ""Unless we cut the light.""

""The breaker box is on the south pylon,"" Julian noted. ""Too far. We'll be exposed.""

""Not if the automated container lift malfunctions,"" Elena countered. She pointed to a terminal access pad mounted near the loading bay. ""Every commercial dock uses automated cargo belts. If I trip the emergency sensor, the primary circuit breaker trips to prevent cargo collisions. It’ll blackout the entire yard for ninety seconds.""

Julian smiled grimly. ""Smart. Go. I'll cover your angle.""

Elena sprinted across the wet tarmac like a shadow, ducking between wooden pallets. She reached the control pad, ripped off the plastic housing with a loose crowbar, and shorted the main relay wires.

A loud pop hissed through the air. Instantly, all floodlights died, plunging the entire harbor into pitch-black chaos.

Shouts erupted from the guards. Muffled gunshots whistled through the dark. Elena sprinted toward the main doors as Julian neutralized the confused security in rapid, lethal bursts.
