Chapter 13 - The Throne Room

The top floor of the Vance Tower gleamed with glass and polished granite, overlooking the sprawling metropolis below. Inside the boardroom, fifteen directors sat around an elliptical mahogany table, their whispers filling the room with anxious murmurs.
At the head of the table sat Arthur Sterling, immaculate in a bespoke grey suit, his silver hair neatly combed back. He tapped his gold pen against the table, calling the meeting to order.
""Ladies and gentlemen,"" Sterling announced, his voice projecting gravitas and manufactured grief. ""As you are painfully aware, our family enterprise has suffered unimaginable tragedies over the past twenty-four hours. Madame Eleanor Vance remains in a coma, while young Julian faces severe criminal charges that threaten the very existence of our stock value.""
A nervous ripple ran through the board members. Several nodded in solemn agreement.
""Under Section 14 of our corporate charter,"" Sterling continued, motioning to his legal counsel to distribute a set of thick blue folders, ""in the event of executive paralysis or felony indictments, the chairmanship reverts automatically to the senior trustee until a formal tribunal is concluded. I move that we execute the proxy transfer immediately.""
""Seconded,"" one of the bought directors chimed in instantly.
""All those in favor—""
The heavy double oak doors of the boardroom burst open with an echoing crash, striking the wall with violent force.
Every head snapped toward the entrance.
Julian Vance walked in, looking immaculate in a freshly tailored black three-piece suit. Flanking him were four federal agents and two uniformed state troopers, their presence turning the pristine corporate atmosphere into an armed perimeter.
Behind them, pushed smoothly by an officer, was Clara in her wheelchair. She wore a tailored ivory dress, her posture upright, her hazel eyes burning with fierce, cold intelligence. In her lap rested a red leather binder.

Sterling’s pen slipped from his fingers, clattering loudly against the glass table. ""Julian? This is a closed board meeting! You are under arrest!""
""The charges were dismissed thirty minutes ago, Arthur,"" Julian said, his voice echoing across the silent room like a thunderclap. ""And this meeting is no longer about succession. It is about treason.""
