Chapter 11 - The Unspoken Truths

As the evening deepened into night, Eleanor and Thomas sat by the fire, talking about the decades they had spent apart. Thomas spoke of the quiet, lonely years in Scotland, working as a carpenter and shipwright, finding solace in the sea that had separated them. Eleanor spoke of her daughter, her grief, and the hollow place in her heart that had never truly healed.
“I don't have much time left, Eleanor,” Thomas said softly, his breathing noticeably heavy as he leaned back into his chair. “The doctors in Edinburgh told me my heart is tired. That’s why I came back. I wanted to see Blackwood Cove one last time... and I wanted to return what was yours.”
Eleanor pulled the silver ring from her coat pocket and held it out. “It was never mine, Thomas. It was yours. I gave it to you the night before you vanished.”
Thomas looked at the ring, a single tear slipping down his weathered cheek. “I wore it on a chain around my neck every single day. When I felt like giving up, I touched the letters inside. Forever Yours. It kept me alive.”
Eleanor stood up, walked over to his chair, and gently placed the chain back around his neck, letting the ring rest against his chest.
“You keep it,” she said, her voice filled with unwavering devotion. “You kept your promise, Thomas. You never broke it.”
