Chapter 13 - The Unbreakable Bond

Elena looked at the board members, meeting each of their stares with unwavering poise. For years, she had felt powerless, invisible, a ghost cleaning the floors of the wealthy. But holding her daughter’s small hand gave her an iron spine.

""The test was completed two hours ago at the university medical center,"" Elena stated clearly, her voice resonating with quiet power. ""A 99.98% match. I am Lily’s mother. The surrogacy contract Marcus manipulated was nullified by fraud, but my parental rights are absolute.""

Marcus looked frantically around the table, seeking allies among the board. ""This is a circus! She’s an opportunist! Julian paid for that child, she has no right to Sterling assets!""

""She doesn't want the assets, Marcus,"" Julian said, taking a step toward his brother. ""She wants her daughter. And as the biological parents, we have filed for joint, irrevocable custody under the family court emergency docket.""

Julian pulled a tablet from his briefcase, sliding it across the glass. The screen displayed a live feed from the federal prosecutor’s office. Dr. Vance was sitting in an interrogation room, singing like a bird, laying out every wire transfer, every offshore account, and every order Marcus had signed over the last four years to orchestrate the clinic fire and the subsequent extortion scheme.

Marcus slumped back into his leather chair, the color completely drained from his face.

""Security,"" Julian said quietly.

Two federal marshals stepped into the boardroom, their badges gleaming under the recessed lighting. Within seconds, Marcus was handcuffed and led out of the executive suite in front of the stunned board.

The remaining members exchanged nervous, deferential glances, slowly rising to their feet in unanimous respect for Julian and the woman standing beside him.

Lily looked up at Elena, tugging on her sleeve. ""Mommy, can we go home now?""

May you like

Elena looked down at her child, a radiant smile breaking through the exhaustion on her face. ""Yes, darling. We can go home.""

Julian looked at Elena, his hardened eyes softening into something deep and unreadable. But as they turned to leave the room, Julian’s phone buzzed with an encrypted alert from his personal security team: Vance didn't act alone. The foreign syndicate is already mobilizing.
