Chapter 13 - Fire in the Pines

The twin beams of the unmarked sedan swept across the cabin clearing, pinning Jax, Sarah, and little Leo in a harsh, inescapable spotlight. The doors of the car clicked open, and two heavy-set men in dark tactical jackets stepped out, their boots crunching loudly against the gravel as they advanced toward the porch with calculated precision. Jax didn't hesitate; he shoved Sarah and the boy behind the heavy steel frame of his motorcycle, using the chopper as a makeshift barricade.
""Get inside the cabin, lock the door, and don't look back!"" Jax ordered, his voice brooking no argument as he pulled a heavy iron wrench from his saddlebag. Sarah grabbed Leo by the hand, her face pale with terror, but she didn't argue—she knew arguing meant death for her son. As the cabin door slammed shut behind them, the lead pursuer stepped into the pool of light, a cold smirk playing across his scarred face.

""Well, well. Looks like the stray dog found his way home,"" the man mocked, his hand resting casually near his hip. ""Hand over the woman and the kid, biker, and we won't have to turn this forest into a graveyard."" Jax stepped away from the motorcycle, rolling his shoulders and letting out a slow, steady breath as twenty years of pent-up rage, guilt, and protective fury coalesced into single-minded focus.
""You picked the wrong patch of woods, asshole,"" Jax growled, charging forward before the man could draw his weapon. The first attacker swung a heavy fist, but Jax ducked under it with surprising agility, driving a devastating punch straight into the man's ribs that sent him crashing hard into the dirt. The second man lunged forward from the side, tackling Jax to the cold earth as a violent, brutal brawl erupted under the flickering headlights.
