Chapter 10 - Confrontation in the Foyer

The air in the grand foyer was thick with tension as Jax stepped casually around the corner, his heavy boots echoing loudly against the polished hardwood floor. David froze mid-sentence, his jaw dropping in sheer disbelief as he stared at the towering, tattooed biker standing in his pristine living room. Clara, who was pacing near the grand staircase where she had pushed Elena weeks prior, spun around with a shriek of pure rage and terror.
""Who let you in here?! Get out of this house before I call the sheriff!"" Clara screamed, her face contorting into an ugly mask of panic as she recognized the weathered features of the man she thought she had banished forever. ""Security! David, call security right now!""
""Security isn't answering, Clara,"" Jax said smoothly, his voice dangerously calm as he stopped right at the foot of the stairs. He looked up at the exact spot where Elena had been attacked, his eyes hardening into flint. ""And the sheriff is currently staring at a flash drive full of federal wire transfers sitting in my jacket pocket. Game over, sister.""
David looked wildly between his mother and Jax, his hands trembling violently. ""Who... who are you? What is he talking about, Mom? Why does he call you sister?"" He turned to Elena, who had just stepped out from the study hallway holding the police report high. ""Elena... what is happening here?""
""Your mother isn't just a grieving mother-in-law, David,"" Elena said, her voice ringing out clear, strong, and unyielding across the foyer. ""She’s a criminal who murdered my baby, murdered the woman who lived here before me, and framed my uncle twenty years ago to steal my family's estate.""
Clara’s panic suddenly dissolved into a cold, calculating composure. She let out a sharp, mocking laugh, walking slowly toward the bottom of the staircase as if she still held all the cards. ""And who do you think a jury is going to believe, Elena? A traumatized, unstable girl who lost her mind after a tragic accident, backed by an ex-con biker with a violent record? You have no hard proof that holds up in a real court.""
""Actually, Clara,"" a calm, professional voice echoed from the front doorway as it swung wide open, ""she has federal corroboration.""

All heads snapped toward the entrance. Standing in the doorway wasn't Detective Vance, but two federal agents in dark tactical windbreakers bearing bold yellow lettering: FBI - Criminal Investigation Division. Behind them stood Marcus, the delivery driver, nodding slowly at Elena with a reassuring expression.
Clara’s face turned completely bloodless. For the first time in her life, the iron-willed tyrant realized her empire of lies had finally crumbled into dust.
