Chapter 12 - Broken Glass and Broken Ties

Ethan lunged.
He didn't care about the laws, the family legacy, or the consequences. He tackled Eleanor across the metal counter, sending trays of sterile instruments crashing to the floor with a deafening clatter. The syringe flew from Eleanor's hand, shattering against the base of the incubator.
Eleanor let out a sharp hiss of pain as her head hit the stainless steel edge. But despite her age, she fought back with terrifying ferocity, clawing at Ethan's eyes with her manicured nails. ""You insolent dog! You owe everything you are to me!""
""I owe you nothing!"" Ethan pinned her arms against the tiled floor, his breathing ragged.
The commotion drew the immediate attention of the ICU staff. Two pediatric nurses rushed in through the rear doors, gasping in utter horror at the scene: the family matriarch pinned beneath her bloodied son, surrounded by overturned carts and broken medical supplies.
""Call the police!"" Ethan yelled at the nurses, pinning Eleanor’s wrists down harder. ""She attempted to poison my child! Check the IV fluids right now!""

Eleanor stopped struggling. She looked up at Ethan, her silver hair disheveled for the first time in her life, yet her gaze remained razor-sharp. ""You think you've won, boy?"" she whispered, blood dripping from a small cut on her temple. ""Look at the cameras above you. Who do you think the board will believe? An unstable son grieving an injured wife, violently assaulting his elderly mother?""
As if on cue, the hospital security alarms began to blare, and the sound of heavy footsteps rapidly approached the ward.
