Chapter 13 - Breaking the Foundation

The subterranean service tunnel was pitch black, smelling of damp earth, rust, and stagnant water. Julian moved through the gloom with practiced stealth, his shoes splashing softly against the concrete floor. He had memorized the blueprint of his estate's sub-basement years ago when he was first expanding the property's digital infrastructure, anticipating every possible security vulnerability—except the one standing inside his own master bedroom.
He reached the heavy steel security hatch at the end of the tunnel, pressing his thumb against the biometric scanner and punching a twelve-digit override code into the keypad. With a heavy, pneumatic click, the latch disengaged, and the door swung inward, revealing the cool, blue-lit server room hidden beneath the mansion's wine cellar.
The hum of high-end servers filled the small, sterile room. Julian stepped inside, immediately sliding his encrypted flash drive into the primary master terminal. Lines of green code cascaded down the dual monitors as the system recognized his master-level clearance, bypassing Victoria’s newly installed firewall in a matter of seconds.
""Got you,"" Julian muttered under his breath, his fingers flying across the mechanical keyboard.
On the screen, financial records, offshore accounts, wire transfers, and—most importantly—the original, unredacted legal documents proving that Victoria’s father had systematically embezzled, framed, and destroyed Elena’s family assets flashed into view. Every single dollar, every corporate share, and every piece of real estate belonging to the Vance conglomerate was legally tied to a trust that defaulted directly to Elena—and by extension, to Clara.
Suddenly, the red alarm lights on the server rack began to flash furiously. A harsh, synthesized klaxon blared through the subterranean room as an automated security prompt flashed across the monitor: UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS DETECTED. SYSTEM LOCKDOWN INITIATED.

""You're too late, Julian,"" a cold, clipped voice echoed from the doorway behind him.
Julian spun around sharply. Standing in the entrance of the server room, blocking his only exit, was Victoria. She had changed out of her white dress into a sleek, dark tactical pantsuit, her hair pulled back into a tight bun. In her right hand, she held a compact, silenced automatic pistol, pointed with chilling steadiness directly at Julian's chest. Her face was a mask of cold, unyielding rage.
