Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Coup

The crisis peaked a month later during the Vance Industries annual shareholder summit. The grand auditorium of the Vance Tower was packed with institutional investors, analysts, and reporters.
Harrison Vance took the stage before Marcus arrived, projecting a leaked tabloid smear claiming Elena Cruz was an unqualified liability who had created internal instability within the family estate, driving away vital corporate partners like the Sterling Group.
"Leadership requires emotional stability," Harrison proclaimed to the assembled investors, his voice booming over the speakers. "Our current CEO has compromised multi-million-dollar partnerships over domestic drama. I move for an immediate vote of no confidence to replace Marcus Vance as Chief Executive."
A low rumble of agreement stirred through the older board members. Just as Harrison raised his gavel to call for the vote, the auditorium doors swung open.
Marcus walked down the center aisle, accompanied not by attorneys or PR managers, but by a distinguished older woman with silver hair, carrying a slim leather folder.
"Save your gavel, Uncle Harrison," Marcus called out, his voice cutting through the room with effortless poise.
Murmurs rippled through the audience. An analyst in the front row gasped: "That’s Eleanor Sterling... the matriarch of the Sterling dynasty."
Marcus took the stage, nodding politely to the older woman. Eleanor Sterling stepped toward the microphone, her eyes stern as she looked at Harrison.
"My granddaughter Victoria was expelled from this estate for gross cruelty and moral bankruptcy," Eleanor declared, her voice firm and undisputed. "She lied to her father, she lied to the media, and it seems she allied with you, Harrison, to fabricate a smear campaign against an honorable young woman."

Eleanor placed the folder on the lectern. "This contains the full forensic security footage of Victoria deliberately endangering Marcus’s infant son. If this smear campaign does not cease immediately, the Sterling estate will strip Victoria of all trust funds and publicly endorse Marcus Vance’s unilateral control of our joint venture."
Harrison’s face turned an ashen shade of gray. The auditorium erupted into a frenzy of flashing cameras and urgent chatter. The coup had dissolved in seconds.
