Chapter 13 - The Rose Villa

Forty-eight hours later, Julian Vance walked through the wrought-iron gates of a secluded estate on the rugged cliffs of Patagonia. The autumn winds of the southern hemisphere carried the crisp scent of salt water and blooming wild roses that covered the stone cliffs like a crimson blanket.
Julian was dressed in a simple charcoal overcoat, his tactical gear replaced by the quiet dignity of a man seeking salvation. Behind him, Eleanor held Lily’s hand, walking slowly along the gravel path that led toward a modest whitewashed villa overlooking the roaring Atlantic Ocean.
The estate had been purchased under a shell company sixteen years ago, a sanctuary Evelyn had bought before she had ever met Julian, known only to her closest childhood journal entries.
""Is Mommy here?"" Lily asked, tugging on Eleanor’s coat.
""We have to see, darling,"" Eleanor whispered, her voice choking with emotion as she looked at the familiar architecture.
As they reached the stone courtyard, the front wooden door swung open. A woman stepped out onto the sunlit veranda.
She leaned heavily on a polished wooden cane, her left leg bearing a visible brace. Her hair, once long and dark like midnight, was cut short, threaded with silver strands around the temples. A faint, elegant scar ran along her cheekbone, but her eyes—brilliant, fierce, and undeniably warm—were the exact hazel color that Julian saw every time he looked at Lily.
Julian stopped dead in his tracks. The world around him ceased to exist. The wind, the roar of the ocean, the pain in his chest—all of it dissolved into nothingness.
""Evelyn,"" he breathed, the name carrying four years of grief, tears, and longing.
Evelyn dropped her cane onto the flagstones with a dull clatter. Tears welled in her eyes, spilling over her scarred cheeks as she took a trembling step forward.
""Julian..."" she sobbed, her voice breaking the silence of the cliffs. ""You found us.""
Before Julian could move, Lily let go of Eleanor’s hand and sprinted across the stone path with arms wide open.
""Mommy!""
Evelyn fell to her knees, catching the little girl in her arms, burying her face into Lily’s curls, weeping openly as she held her daughter against her heart. Julian dropped to his knees beside them, wrapping his powerful arms around both of them, pulling them into an embrace so tight that nothing on earth could ever tear them apart again.
For long minutes, they stayed there, three souls reunited upon the edge of the world, their tears washing away years of blood, fire, and separation.
""They told me you were dead, Julian,"" Evelyn whispered against his neck, kissing his bruised jaw. ""Arthur sent men to tell me you had died in the fire... that if I ever returned, they would kill the baby.""
""They're gone, Evelyn,"" Julian murmured, his voice thick with unashamed tears. ""Every single one of them is behind bars. The empire is clean. The nightmare is over.""
Eleanor joined them, kneeling down to hug her sister, completing the circle that had been broken so violently years ago.
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in deep shades of gold and violet, a luxury black helicopter appeared over the ridge, its rotors thumping rhythmically as it circled the estate’s private landing pad.

Julian looked up, his brow furrowing. He hadn't called for transport.
The helicopter bore the crest of the Vance International Trust, but on its tail was a red insignia Julian had never authorized.
