Chapter 1 - The Projector's Verdict

The evening air carried the scent of crushed lawn grass, white lilies, and expensive champagne. Overhead, strings of warm bistro bulbs illuminated the manicured lawn of the estate, casting soft amber glows on crystal centerpieces and tuxedos. It was supposed to be the picture of modern dynastic triumph: Julian Vance, rising architect and heir to Vance Coastal Developments, marrying Clara Sterling, daughter of high-society finance.

Yet everything shattered the instant five-year-old Lily took the stage.

Lily, wearing a midnight-blue dress that had lost its hem ribbons hours ago and a crooked yellow satin bow in her blonde hair, reached the DJ booth on tiny feet. She didn't stumble. With a solemn gravity far beyond her years, she tapped the handheld microphone twice, causing a low, reverberating thud that silenced the murmuring tables.

"I have something you need to see," Lily's voice echoed through the high-end PA speakers.

Julian turned around slowly. Across the floral canopy stood Clara, radiant in an embroidered ivory gown, holding the hand of Julian’s mother, Evelyn Vance. Evelyn was trembling, wearing a navy dress with jagged tears running across the bodice and sleeves—fabric shredding that guests had initially whispered about as a bizarre, disrespectful tragedy.

A brilliant burst of projector light cut through the garden darkness. The hundred-inch canvas screen rustled in the breeze, and then crystal-clear security footage flashed on.

It was Evelyn’s dressing suite from an hour earlier. On the video, Clara cornered Evelyn near a mahogany vanity. Clara’s polished porcelain veneer was gone; her mouth twisted with contempt as her hands gripped the fabric of Evelyn’s gown, clawing and ripping it downward with vicious calculation. Through the venue’s speakers, Clara’s recorded voice cut through the garden like cold steel: "You came here broke with your useless granddaughter. You embarrass me. Wear this, so everyone knows exactly where you belong in Julian's world."

A collective gasp sucked the air out of the lawn.

"Shut that video off right now!" Clara shrieked, her voice cracking into shrill hysteria as she lunged toward the booth. Her manicured hands clawed at the air, white veil tangling around her shoulders.

Julian stepped forward. He stood six-foot-two in his bespoke tuxedo, his features carved out of marble. He did not yell. He simply raised his left hand, the heavy gold band catching the projection's glare.

"Nobody touches that screen," Julian commanded. His voice wasn't loud, but it held the finality of an iron door slamming shut.

Clara froze, her breath rattling. Evelyn wept silently by the floral arch, hiding her torn collarbone. Lily stood by the laptop, her small brown eyes watchful, holding a silver USB drive firmly inside her pocket.

The fairytale was dead; the real reckoning had begun.
