Chapter 5 - A Flash of Silk

The confrontation erupted in an instant of blinding speed that shattered the café's quiet morning hum. The scarred man lunged forward, his baton whipping through the air in a vicious arc aimed straight at Shen’s throat. Shen didn't retreat; he pivoted on his right heel, deflecting the iron strike with the soft edge of his teal sleeve while simultaneously planting his palm firmly into the attacker's solar plexus. The man folded backward, crashing against a display shelf and scattering porcelain mugs across the floor.
The second assailant drew a short blade, lunging low toward Elena and Leo in a desperate bid for leverage. Elena screamed, shielding the toddler with her own body as the blade flashed downward. But before the steel could bite, Shen was already there, his foot hooking behind the man’s knee, dropping him violently to the tile floor with a bone-jarring thud. Shen stood panting slightly in the sudden silence, only to hear the sharp click of a revolver cocking from the dark corridor behind the kitchen door.
