Chapter 13 - Lessons of the Heart

Victoria visited the cottage that summer afternoon, bringing a basket of fresh pastries and art supplies for Lily. She had spent the past year rebuilding her own life, far removed from the toxic family politics that had controlled her for decades.

Sitting on the porch with Ethan, Victoria looked out at Lily, who was busy painting a bright yellow sun on a canvas in the grass. "I never apologized properly, Ethan," Victoria said softly, her eyes filled with genuine regret. "For standing by and doing nothing for so long."

Ethan placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "The past is behind us, Victoria. What matters is that you chose to do the right thing when it counted most. You helped save her, too."

They watched as Lily ran toward them, showing off her painting with a radiant smile—a stark contrast to the quiet, tearful child in the marble hallway.
