Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

The following evening, Ethan waited in Julian’s private office. When Julian walked in, briefcase in hand, he stopped short seeing Ethan sitting behind his mahogany desk with the black ledger open before him.

"You shouldn't be in here, Ethan," Julian said, his voice deceptively calm as he closed the door behind him.

"Arthur didn't die leaving his daughter penniless, did he?" Ethan said, holding up the book. "You stole her medical trust. You locked her away in the east wing to hide the fact that you were draining her future to save your failing investments."

Julian’s calm facade cracked for a split second before hardening into cold anger. "You don't understand how the real world works, Ethan. I saved this family from bankruptcy! Arthur was soft. If I hadn't taken control, we would all have nothing!"

"You call this living?" Ethan stood up, stepping around the desk. "You live in a palace made of glass and lies. Lily has more humanity in her pinky finger than you have in your entire body."
