Chapter 5 - Cracks in the Armor

The next morning, the grand dining room was silent as usual. Silverware clinked against fine china as Julian read the morning financial reports. Victoria poured tea with practiced elegance, though her eyes avoided Ethan’s entirely.
"I want Lily to join us for meals from now on," Ethan announced, breaking the heavy silence.
Julian didn't look up from his papers immediately. When he finally did, his eyes were like flint. "Lily is sick, Ethan. She requires rest, not the stress of social settings. Her medical team agrees that routine is best for her."

"She saved my life yesterday, Julian," Ethan replied firmly, leaning across the table. "While everyone else stood by or panicked, a six-year-old child had the presence of mind to act. She isn't fragile—she is stronger than anyone in this house."
Victoria’s hand trembled slightly, spilling a few drops of tea onto the white linen cloth. Julian narrowed his eyes, sensing a shift in his younger brother. Ethan had spent years staying out of family affairs, consumed by his own quiet life, but now, a dangerous fire had been lit inside him.
