"I visited Walter yesterday," Clara said quietly, staring out over the horizon.

Julian paused, holding the cool metal of the thermos. "How is he?"

"Old," she replied softly. "Small. He spends all his time in the prison library, reading legal transcripts of the restitution trust. He didn't ask for forgiveness this time. He just asked if the flowers were blooming here."

"Do you ever miss it?" Clara asked, nudging his shoulder gently. "The power? The private jets? Walking into any room on earth and owning it?"

Julian shook his head without a second's hesitation.

"I never owned those rooms, Clara. Those rooms owned me. They dictated who I was supposed to hate, who I was supposed to exploit, and how I was supposed to hide behind walls. Out here... I finally know who I am."
