Chapter 14 - The Scars We CarryThat night, after the gala, Mason and Clara sat on the cedar porch overlooking the ocean. The rhythmic crash of the waves mirrored the steady cadence of their shared life. A silver scar remained on Clara’s arm where the central IV line had been inserted during her resuscitation—a permanent reminder of mortality.

Mason gently traced his thumb over the mark. "Does it hurt?"

"Only when it rains," she smiled softly, resting her head against his chest. "Not because of the poison, but because it reminds me how close the world came to losing everything we built. It keeps me grateful, Mason. Every sunrise, every cry from the nursery, every breath."
