Chapter 8 - The UnmaskingHelena pulled out an amber glass vial sealed in wax, along with a burner phone and a set of forged medical directives bearing Clara’s signature. A cold, victorious smile curved her lips as she placed the vial inside her pocket, intending to dispose of the remaining poison away from the estate grounds.

The library door clicked open.
Helena spun around, instinctively sliding her hands behind her back. "Mason! You startled me. I was just looking for..."
Mason stepped into the room, upright, calm, and utterly devoid of grief. His eyes were clear, penetrating, and lethal. "Looking for the rest of the toxin, Helena?"
Her expression froze. "What are you talking about? Mason, you’re losing your mind from grief."

"Dr. Daniel moved Clara to an isolated intensive care wing three hours ago," Mason said, his voice level and chillingly quiet. "Her blood was cleansed via continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration. Her vitals stabilized. She is awake, Helena. And she remembers you leaning over her bed, whispering that she could sleep now."
Helena’s mask shattered, replaced by a snarling, desperate realization. "She had no right to Thorne Logistics! Julian bled for that company! You married an outsider and gave our family's empire away to two screaming brats!"
