Chapter 11 - The Father's Reckoning

The rain beat steadily against Arthur Vance’s umbrella as he walked toward the squad car. His tailored charcoal coat was immaculate, contrasting sharply with the chaos of the fire engines and the wet pavement. Julian pressed his face against the cruiser window, his jaw hanging slack in total disbelief.
""Dad...?"" Julian gasped, his voice small, stripped of all arrogance. ""You're... you were in Geneva.""
Arthur didn't look at his son. Instead, he stopped in front of Clara, extending a warm hand to take hers. ""You showed remarkable courage tonight, Clara. Far more than my son ever possessed.""
""You knew?"" Clara asked, her voice cracking as the exhaustion finally threatened to pull her to her knees. ""You let him put me through this?""
""We needed the physical ledger he thought he stole tonight,"" Arthur said, his eyes filled with sorrow and professional resolve. ""Julian's pride was his blind spot. ""Silas?"" Clara echoed, remembering the man in the trench coat by the oak tree. ""He burned my sister's house!""
""The fire was an electrical short staged to force Elena out without alerting Julian's surveillance team,"" Arthur replied calmly. ""Elena is uninjured, Clara. She's currently safe inside a secure transport heading to a military medical facility outside the city limits. The burns were theatrical makeup applied by our team before she was wheeled out.""
A strangled scream of rage erupted from the squad car. Julian slammed his forehead against the safety glass, his face twisted in psychotic fury. ""You set me up! My own father set me up for this bitch?!""

Arthur turned slowly, looking down at his son through the window. ""You disgraced our name, Julian. But worse than that, you mistook cruelty for strength. You were never a mastermind. You were simply an amateur bully with an inheritance.""
Arthur nodded to Agent Harris. ""Transfer the prisoner to federal transport. Maximum security solitary.""
