Chapter 11 - Forgiveness is a Compass

By morning, Leo’s fever broke. The boy woke up asking for crackers, his hazel eyes bright once again.

As Julian sat by the bed feeding the toddler small sips of broth, Bella observed them from the corner chair. She saw a transformed man—patient, observant, and genuinely attuned to his child’s quiet cues.

When Julian prepared to leave so Bella could rest, she called out to him. "Julian."

He stopped at the door, looking back. "Yes?"

"I forgave you a while ago," she said quietly. "Not because what you did was acceptable, but because holding onto the bitterness was keeping me tethered to the past. I wanted Leo to see peace in my eyes, not anger."

Julian nodded slowly, a lump forming in his throat. "Forgiving me is more grace than I deserve. But I'm grateful, Bella. Truly."

"We will never be husband and wife again," she added firmly. "That door is closed forever. But we can be Leo's parents. Real ones."

"That's all I want," Julian smiled softly.
