Chapter 8 - Severing the Golden Chains

Two weeks later, the final divorce decrees were signed in an unassuming conference room in Portland, Maine. There were no heated shouting matches, no contested asset valuations, and no paparazzi outside.
Julian handed over full sole legal and physical custody to Bella, requesting only scheduled visitation rights that would grow as Leo matured. In addition, he established an independent educational trust fund for Leo that neither parent could touch.
When the signing concluded, Julian stood up and offered his hand. Bella looked at it, then took it in a firm, respectful handshake.
"Thank you, Julian," she said sincerely.

As Julian walked out of the building, he felt stripped of his previous armor, yet oddly lighter. For the first time in his life, he had made a decision driven entirely by accountability rather than personal ambition.
