Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

"He has your chin," Julian whispered, unable to take his eyes off the boy.
"He does," Bella said softly, though her voice remained guarded.
Julian looked up, meeting her gaze. "I read the notebook you left in the drawer. Every single page."
Bella’s expression remained calm. "Then you finally understand why I left."
"I thought providing wealth was love," Julian admitted, the confession tasting bitter. "My father worked eighteen hours a day and told me emotional men fail in life. I thought if I built an empire, you and my son would be safe forever."
"A child cannot cuddle an empire, Julian," Bella said gently. "A wife cannot confide in stock options. You built a fortress to protect us, but you ended up locking us out and trapping yourself inside."
Julian lowered his head. "I want to sign the papers, Bella. Whatever terms you want."

"Because for the first time," Julian replied, "I care more about what you need than what I want to possess."
