Chapter 11 - The Truth Unveiled

Julian collapsed onto his knees among the broken glass, his shoulders heaving with uncontrollable sobs. The realization of what he had allowed—the five years of stolen fatherhood, the grotesque manipulation by his mother and Victoria—crushed whatever fragile ego he had maintained.
""I didn't know..."" Julian choked out, looking up at Clara with raw, pitiful grief. ""Clara, I swear on my life, I thought you hated me so much you destroyed everything we had together. Mother brought me medical certificates... Victoria swore she accompanied you to the clinic...""
""Your mother forged them, you fool,"" Jax snapped, leaning against the timber mantelpiece with folded arms. ""Eleanor has been playing you against each other since our father drew his last breath. She used Victoria to distract you while she siphoned the holding capital into shell corporations in the Caymans.""
Clara watched her former husband kneeling before her. Five years ago, this scene would have brought her a vindictive sense of satisfaction. Now, looking at the broken wreck of the man she had once loved, she felt only a quiet, resolute pity.
""Get up, Julian,"" Clara commanded, her tone devoid of affection but laden with authority. ""Get off the floor. We don't have time for your remorse.""
Julian wiped his face with the back of a trembling hand, stumbling to his feet. He looked at Clara, then toward the window overlooking the driveway. ""Can I... can I see him?""
""Not yet,"" Clara said coldly. ""You don't earn the right to look at your son by crying on a rug. You earn it by undoing what you broke.""
She pulled the small encrypted microdrive from her pocket and set it down on the pine table between them.
""What is that?"" Julian asked, blinking through his swollen eyes.
""The complete financial records from the Sterling-Vance joint accounts from the year I was exiled,"" Clara stated plainly. ""Every wire transfer, every dummy invoice, every signature Eleanor and Victoria used to bleed your father's trust. I took it the night I left, before your security wiped the mansion servers.""
Julian stared at the drive as if it were a bomb. ""This... this is the evidence the SEC was looking for. Mother told the federal investigators that I was the sole signatory on those accounts. She was going to let me take the federal indictment to protect the primary estate.""
""She was going to put you in prison, Julian,"" Jax said plainly. ""And then take Clara's boy to control the remaining board seats. You were just a pawn to her, exactly like I was before I walked away.""
Julian’s posture slowly shifted. The trembling in his hands stopped, replaced by a sudden, rigid fury that straightened his spine. For five years, guilt and alcohol had kept him sedated. Now, the naked truth cleared the fog from his mind.

""When does the conservatorship hearing take place?"" Julian asked, his voice suddenly steadying.
""Tomorrow morning at ten,"" Clara answered. ""In the Manhattan surrogate court.""
