Chapter 12 - A Mother’s Legacy

In the attic of the Vance manor, Julian brought Clara to an old mahogany chest that had remained locked since his mother's passing twenty years ago.
With an ornate silver key, he opened the chest. Inside lay delicate vintage lace gowns, family photo albums, and a velvet jewelry box.
Julian took out a simple platinum ring set with an understated, radiant sapphire.
"My mother was born into a working-class fishing family in Maine," Julian said softly, holding the heirloom. "When my father brought her here, the society sneered at her just like they did at you. But she told my father that real nobility isn't inherited in blood; it's earned in how you treat the vulnerable."
He took Clara's hand, looking into her eyes with pure devotion.

"She wanted this ring to go to a woman who possessed real courage. Clara... will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"
Clara felt tears of genuine happiness wet her cheeks. "Yes, Julian. A thousand times, yes."
