Chapter 11 - The Fall of House Valenti

The morning sun broke through the smoky haze over the harbor, revealing an unmitigated disaster for the Valenti family. With Marcus’s encrypted thumb drive delivered directly to the federal prosecutor’s office, along with photographic evidence of the mercenaries captured at the scene of the arson, law enforcement had no choice but to act.

At 8:00 AM, federal marshals and tactical police units stormed the Valenti estate in the exclusive northern hills. Lorenzo Valenti was escorted out in handcuffs, his expensive silk dressing gown stained with spilled coffee, his face twisted in disbelief as news cameras captured every second of his humiliation.

Victoria was arrested at the private airfield as she attempted to board a charter jet bound for Monaco. Stripped of her jewelry and designer sunglasses, she screamed curses at the press, her voice shrill and cracked.

Back at the city central hospital, Luciano lay in a private recovery suite, his left arm immobilized in a cast and two cracked ribs bound tightly. Elena sat on the edge of his bed, holding a newspaper whose front page carried a massive photograph: Luciano and Elena, soot-stained and bruised, holding hands amidst the burning docks under the headline: THE TRUE MONARCHS OF THE WATERFRONT.

"Victoria’s lawyers offered a full asset surrender in exchange for avoiding federal racketeering charges," Elena read from the brief Dante had brought them.

"Accept it," Luciano said softly from the pillows. "We don't need their blood. We need their ports. Everything they owned will be converted into a public municipal trust to rebuild the housing district."

Elena touched his hand gently. "And the Moretti shipping line?"

"As of this morning, half the shares have been transferred to the dockworkers' cooperative fund," Luciano replied, looking deeply into her eyes. "Just as Matteo Rossi always dreamed. We are closing the book on the shadows, Elena. Forever."
