Chapter 5 - The Web of Collusion

Ten miles away, behind the guarded gates of Sterling Holdings headquarters, an emergency audit was underway. Marcus had mobilized forensic accountants to dismantle every project Julian had touched over the past five years.

"He wasn't acting alone, Mr. Sterling," reported Thomas Wright, the firm's chief legal counsel, sliding a digital tablet across the polished mahogany conference table. "Julian was funneling proprietary patents through three dummy shell firms backed by the Albright Syndicate."

The Albrights were the primary rival to the Sterling energy enterprise, known for their cutthroat tactics and ethical compromises.

"They financed his lifestyle and guaranteed him twenty percent of the acquired subsidiaries if he managed to wrest legal control of Clara’s trust," Thomas continued. "Victoria was planted in the fertility clinic specifically to manage the child’s legal documentation."

Marcus took off his reading glasses, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Greed always works through predictable conduits. Inform the securities regulators. I want every asset tied to the Albright Syndicate subjected to full public scrutiny."

"And Julian's defense team?"

"Let them file their motions," Marcus replied, his voice laced with absolute certainty. "Justice in this city is not for sale when it comes to the safety of my grandchild. Every dollar Julian thought he possessed will be liquidated to fund victim rehabilitation centers across this state. Make sure his attorneys are paid from what remains of his own frozen personal accounts—not a cent more."

Thomas nodded respectfully. "Understood, sir."

Marcus looked toward the family portrait hanging on the wall: his late wife Eleanor smiling beside a ten-year-old Clara. He touched the frame gently. I kept our promise, Eleanor. She is coming home.
