Chapter 9 - The Garden of Renewal

Summer arrived in full bloom across the Sterling country grounds. Clara was walking without a cane now, her stride steady and measured, carrying Leo across the open lawns.
Marcus joined her near the rose trellis, holding two cups of fresh lemonade. "The board voted this morning," he said gently, handing her a glass. "They want you to assume the leadership of the Sterling Philanthropic Foundation."
Clara looked at the vibrant blossoms surrounding them. "Only on one condition, Father."
Marcus smiled faintly. "Name it."
"I want the foundation’s primary mission redirected toward legal defense and shelter support for vulnerable women and single mothers trapped in domestic exploitation," she said firmly. "Julian assumed I was helpless because I had wealth. But millions of women face the exact same cruelty with no resources, no voice, and no one to intervene."

Leo babbled happily, grasping at a fallen rose petal. Clara lifted him toward the sunlight, his bright eyes reflecting the cloudless summer sky. She had walked through the valley of betrayal, yet her heart remained open, tempered by trials and dedicated to mercy.
