Chapter 6 - Into the Shadows of the City**

The underground parking garage was cold and smelled of damp concrete and gasoline. Arthur moved quickly, his boots slapping against the wet pavement as he carried Clara toward a nondescript black SUV parked in the dark shadows near the back exit.
He gently placed Clara in the passenger seat, buckling her belt and draping his heavy jacket over her shivering frame. "Stay low," he instructed, his voice low and intense. "If you see anyone approaching who isn't me, lock the doors and don't make a sound."
Clara nodded, her pale face illuminated only by the faint red glow of the emergency lights leaking down from the floor above. "Arthur... what is on that drive? Why did my father die for it?"
Arthur paused for a second, his hand resting on the driver's door handle. He looked back at her, his expression filled with profound sadness. "Your father was an idealist, Clara. He believed that truth could heal any system, no matter how rotten. On that drive are the names of high-ranking officials who turned a blind eye to human trafficking and illegal weapons trade across North America. Your father gathered the evidence, but when he realized his own sister—Victoria—was covering it up, he knew he couldn't trust the government."
"So he trusted you," Clara said softly.
"I was a hitman for those same people once, Clara," Arthur admitted, his voice heavy with guilt. "Your father showed me that I could choose a different path. He saved my soul. The least I can do is save his daughter."
Arthur jumped into the driver's seat, started the engine with a low roar, and smashed through the garage's wooden security gate just as security sirens began wailing behind them. The SUV burst out into the pouring rain of the night, merging seamlessly into the dark, slick streets of the sleeping city.

They were now ghosts in the night, but Arthur knew that in the digital age, true darkness was hard to find.
