Chapter 1 - The Silver Blade Frozen

The silver serving knife clattered against the porcelain plate, breaking the stunned silence of the sun-drenched foyer. Thomas stood frozen, his hand still shaped to hold the hilt, staring at the glowing screen held by his seven-year-old niece, Lily. The pixels danced under the chandelier: Elena, radiant in morning sunlight, pouring a dark vial marked with toxic warning into the bowl of delicate white icing.

Elena took a cautious half-step backward, silk hem dragging across polished oak. "Thomas, look at me," she whispered, her voice trembling with practiced sweetness. "It isn’t what it looks like. Let me explain."

"Out," Thomas said. His voice was a flat, lethal line. Guests murmured, drinks wobbling in hands, but no one stepped forward.

Lily pulled back, clutching her pastel rainbow dress, tears streaking her flushed cheeks. She didn't want a fight; she simply wanted her uncle alive. "Uncle Thomas... don't be mad at Aunt Elena," she sobbed quietly.

"I am not mad at you, little bird," Thomas murmured without breaking his glare. "Officer Vance, escort this woman off my property before I lose what sanity remains." A family friend, Sheriff Vance, placed a firm hand on Elena’s lace-draped shoulder. The fairy tale shattered into cold reality.
