By the third year, Claire’s remission was stable enough for her to transfer to an outpatient studio apartment. Thomas visited occasionally, always accompanied by Mark and Lily, keeping boundaries firm but compassionate.
Lily brought Claire hand-drawn pictures of bluebirds and meadows. In turn, Claire taught Lily how to knit yarn scarves.
