Chapter 15 - The Unbroken CircleOn a bright Sunday afternoon, Julian, Clara, and Lily walked down to the stony beach below the cottage. The tide was out, leaving pools of clear water among the granite boulders where small crabs scuttled across the sand.

Lily ran ahead, holding a collection of smoothed sea glass she had gathered from the surf. She dropped down beside a large flat stone and arranged the glass in a neat, shining circle.

"Look, Mommy," Lily called out, waving her small hands. "It’s a window."

Clara and Julian walked over, sitting beside her on the warm pebbles. Clara knelt, lifting one of the pale green shards to the sunlight.

"What does it look through, sweetheart?" Clara asked gently.

"It looks through to tomorrow," Lily replied with the simple, absolute wisdom of a child who had forgotten the fear of cellars.

Julian put his arm around Clara, pulling her close against the ocean breeze. Clara rested her head against his shoulder, their fingers intertwining naturally. There were no hidden chambers, no secrets waiting beneath the floorboards, no fortunes built on silence.

They were stripped of everything the world called power, yet as they watched the sunlight dance across the Atlantic water, they knew they possessed the only thing that had ever mattered: each other, unbound and completely free.
