Chapter 12 - Standing Before the Wolves

The grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was packed with over two hundred shareholders, analysts, and reporters. Flashbulbs went off continuously as Julian walked through the double doors.
He did not wear the customary dark corporate armor of the Vance patriarchs. He wore a simple, tailored navy suit. Beside him walked Maya, radiant in an emerald dress, her chin held high. In Julian's arms was five-month-old Leo, and holding Maya’s hand was Clara, stepping into the public eye for the first time since the scandal broke.
A murmur rippled through the crowd. Marcus Sterling stepped to the podium, tapping the microphone.
"Mr. Vance, this spectacle is entirely inappropriate for a shareholder governance meeting—"
"This is not a spectacle, Marcus," Julian’s voice cut through the sound system, calm, clear, and commanding. He stepped up to the second podium, setting Leo in a portable carrier on the table beside him. "This is an accounting."
Julian projected onto the massive screens behind him not balance sheets, but internal memos, intercepted letters, and wire transfers dating back five years.
"For thirty years, Vance Global has been operated under the philosophy that human lives are secondary to quarterly margins. My grandfather built an empire on manipulation, silencing whistleblowers, and even severing the bonds between a father and his children."
The room went dead silent. The clicking of cameras slowed as every eye turned to the projected evidence.

"I am not liquidating this company to run away," Julian declared. "I am restructuring Vance Global into a public benefit corporation. Fifty-one percent of all voting shares are being placed into an irrevocable charitable trust dedicated to family welfare, maternal healthcare, and legal defense against corporate exploitation. If you don't like it, sell your stock today. But if you stay, you will help us build a company that honors life instead of devouring it."
A stunned silence lingered for three seconds, followed by a thunderous applause that began at the back of the room and swept forward like a tidal wave.
