Chapter 5 - The Severing of Chains

By mid-afternoon, the executive board of Vance Global was scheduled to convene in the east wing of the estate to finalize the succession paperwork. Julian had called an emergency meeting ahead of the formal proceedings.

In the lavish dining room, six senior partners and three legal counsel members sat along the mahogany table, waiting. When Julian entered, he was not wearing his suit jacket. His sleeves were rolled up, his collar open. In one arm he carried baby Leo; with his other hand, he held Noah’s small hand. Maya walked behind him, holding Iris, her posture immaculate and unafraid.

Clara slipped into the room last, keeping her eyes fixed on the parquet floor.

"Julian, what is the meaning of this?" asked Marcus Sterling, the family’s longtime lead attorney. "The estate distribution cannot proceed with unauthorized guests in attendance."

Julian tossed the leather folder onto the center of the polished table. It slid across the wood and knocked against Sterling’s stack of legal files.

"Open it, Marcus," Julian commanded.

Sterling frowned, adjusting his spectacles before leafing through the letters and the medical records. The attorney’s face hardened, shifting from legal skepticism to cold discomfort.

"These are four years old," Sterling muttered. "Arthur handled all personal correspondence directly."

"You knew," Julian said, his voice dropping into that terrifyingly quiet cadence. "You handled the codicil. You knew Maya had given birth to twins, and you helped my grandfather conceal it under the guise of an NDA that she never even signed."

"Julian, it was to protect the corporate restructuring—"

"Get out," Julian interrupted.

Sterling blinked, stunned. "Excuse me?"

"You are dismissed as general counsel for Vance Global and all related family trusts," Julian declared. "Every single person at this table who had knowledge of this folder has until five o'clock to submit their resignations. If you fight me, I will make every letter, every forged document, and every unlawful interception of federal mail public before the opening bell tomorrow morning."

The board members exchanged hurried, terrified glances. One by one, recognizing the absolute resolve in Julian's eyes, they gathered their briefcases and filed out of the room in shame.
