Chapter 14 - Rose Cottage

An hour later, the car pulled up in front of a modest brick cottage with creeping ivy and a small front yard filled with blooming hydrangeas. It was a humble, tranquil corner of London, worlds apart from Julian's glass-and-steel existence in Manhattan.
Sitting on the low stone wall outside the cottage was Maya, swinging her scuffed sneakers, while Elena hauled two heavy, battered suitcases up the front path.
Julian stepped out of the car, adjusting Leo against his chest. The morning air was crisp and scented with damp earth and rain.
"Need a hand with those bags?" Julian called out.
Elena stopped, turning around in disbelief. Her tired eyes widened, then filled with tears of pure shock. Maya jumped down from the wall, her face lighting up with a radiant grin.
"Mr. Julian!" Maya ran forward, stopping right in front of him. "You found our castle!"
"You gave me the map," Julian smiled, tapping the pocket where the drawing rested safely against his heart.
Elena walked over, wiping her hands on her jeans, stunned. "Julian... what are you doing here? You have meetings, a life..."
"I have a life to rebuild," Julian corrected gently. "And I realized I don't want to do it the old way. My firm is establishing a non-profit foundation for pediatric health initiatives here in London. We need a director of community nursing. Someone who knows how to heal people with their hands and their heart."

Elena stared at him, speechless. "Julian, I... I can't accept charity."
"It's not charity, Elena. It’s an investment in what truly matters," Julian said firmly. "You saved my life on that plane. You saved Leo. Let me help you build yours here."
