Chapter 9 - Breakfast in the Clouds

When the cabin crew began serving breakfast, the chief purser, a poised British woman named Margaret, walked over with a silver service cart. She looked at Elena and Maya, fully aware of airline regulations regarding class separation.

Julian sat up carefully, adjusting Leo. "Purser, whatever extra charge is required to upgrade these two passengers for breakfast, please put it on my card."

Margaret looked from the worn soles of Maya’s sneakers to the peaceful, sleeping baby, and then into Julian's determined eyes. Her professional composure softened into a warm, discreet smile.

"That won't be necessary, sir," Margaret whispered. "We have excess catering in business class this morning. It would be a crime to let warm brioche and fresh berries go to waste."

She set down two porcelain plates filled with fresh fruit, croissants, and eggs before Elena and Maya, pouring hot tea into fine china cups.

Maya’s eyes sparkled. "It looks like a feast in a castle!"

Elena took a slow bite, tears shining in her eyes. It was more than food; it was dignity. In a world that constantly reminded her of what she couldn't afford, this small act of hospitality felt revolutionary.
