Chapter 8 - The Businessman's Coffee

Morning light began to bleed through the oval windows, painting the horizon in streaks of amber and rose. The smell of freshly brewed coffee drifted from the forward galley.
The businessman in 4B, who had complained hours earlier, unbuckled his belt and stood up. He walked toward the galley, stopping briefly by Julian’s suite. Julian braced himself for another sharp comment about passengers moving between cabins.
Instead, the man looked at the sleeping baby nestled against Julian’s chest, then glanced at Elena and the little girl resting quietly in the adjacent seat.
"Rough night," the businessman remarked, his voice surprisingly devoid of hostility.
"Yes," Julian said quietly. "It was."
The man reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out two vouchers for the airline's executive arrival lounge in Heathrow. "My name is Richard. I lost my daughter fifteen years ago to an illness. When I heard your boy crying... it made me angry because it reminded me of things I couldn't fix."

He placed the lounge passes on the tray table. "You're doing a fine job, son. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise."
Richard nodded curtly, turned on his heel, and continued down the aisle. Julian and Elena exchanged a glance of quiet wonder. Empathy was contagious; it only required someone brave enough to lower their defenses first.
