Chapter 11 - The Confession of a Son

For forty-five minutes, Julian Sterling testified under oath, systematically dismantling the mythology of the Sterling dynasty. He explained how his mother had used crooked medical examiners to fabricate a psychological breakdown, isolating him in a private residential facility where his communications were seized, all to prevent him from acknowledging paternity before the inheritance trust matured.

"She wanted the child," Julian said, looking across the room directly at his mother, "because the trust stipulates that if I fail to claim my share by my thirtieth birthday, full executive control reverts to the surviving matriarch—provided she holds legal custody of an heir. Noah was not a grandson to her. Noah was an asset to secure sixty million dollars."

Elena’s attorneys were frantically whispering among themselves, pulling papers from their briefcases, but Elena sat motionless. Her face was as white as marble, her regal composure completely shattered.

Judge Thornton turned his piercing gaze toward Elena. "Judge Sterling, do you wish to take the stand to rebut these allegations?"

Elena’s attorney stood up, his voice cracking. "Your Honor, on advice of counsel, my client invokes her Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination."

A heavy, suffocating silence fell over the courtroom. In the legal world, invoking the Fifth in a civil custody hearing carried an unbearable, devastating weight.
