Chapter 12 - The Simple Life

Months passed, bringing the warmth of late summer. The frantic noise of city life faded into a distant memory as Julian adapted to a simple, meaningful existence. He took a job at a local engineering firm, designing sustainable housing—work that filled him with a quiet sense of pride he had never experienced in the corporate boardroom.

Clara reopened her small community art studio, teaching local children to paint. Leo grew healthy and strong, his bright eyes full of wonder as he babbled happily in his wooden crib on the porch.

One evening, as the sun dipped behind the hills, Dr. Sterling visited the cottage, carrying a framed photograph.

"Found this in the hospital archive from forty years ago," Richard said, handing the frame to Julian.

It was a photograph of Julian's father, holding baby Julian in a hospital room, wearing the exact same look of soft, unconditional devotion that Julian now wore when he held Leo.
