Chapter 7 - The Unseen Threat

Rebuilding a broken trust takes time, and the past rarely lets go without a fight. Eleanor Vance was not a woman who accepted defeat quietly. Deprived of control over her son, she turned her attention toward securing legal custody of Leo, arguing that Clara’s past financial scandal rendered her an unfit mother.

A formal court notice arrived at the cottage three weeks later.

Clara dropped the envelope onto the wooden kitchen table, her hands shaking. "She won't stop, Julian. She will use every dime she has to tear Leo away from me."

Julian took the paper and read the cold legal language. His jaw set into a firm, unyielding line. "She used money to push you away once because I was too weak to stop her. That won't happen again."

"How can we fight her?" Clara asked, tears glistening in her eyes. "She owns the lawyers, the judges, the media."

"She owns the system, Clara," Julian said, looking her dead in the eye. "But she doesn't own the truth. And for the first time, we are standing on the right side of it."
