Chapter 3 - The Broken Vow

Two years prior, the Vance empire was on the verge of collapse. Eleanor Vance had made a choice: sacrifice Clara—a woman of humble origins who loved Julian unconditionally—or lose the family legacy to corporate creditors. Clara had accepted the blame for a financial scandal she did not commit, walking away in silence to protect Julian's future.

Now, sitting in the quiet luxury of the hospital's private lounge, Julian stared at his mother across the mahogany coffee table.

"You knew," Julian said, his voice terrifyingly quiet. "You knew she was pregnant when she left."

Eleanor didn't flinch. She adjusted her ring, looking out the floor-to-ceiling window at the city lights. "I did what was necessary for the survival of this family, Julian. Clara was a distraction. She lacked the stature, the background—"

"She carried my son!" Julian slammed his fist onto the table, the sharp echo shattering the stillness of the room. "You traded my family for balance sheets!"

"I traded a liability for your freedom!" Eleanor snapped back, her eyes narrowing. "Look at you now—CEO of Vance Enterprises. You have power, respect. A child with a disgraced woman would have ruined the restructuring."

Julian stood up slowly, looking at his mother as if seeing her clearly for the first time. "I don't have a family, Eleanor. I have a company. And tonight, I am taking my life back."
