Chapter 14 - The Bridge Across Time

Clara looked at the older woman, seeing for the first time not an invincible corporate tyrant, but a lonely mother who had lost her way in the pursuit of security.

"Come inside, Eleanor," Clara said gently, stepping aside to open the door. "The tea is warm."

Inside the sunlit living room, Eleanor sat on the edge of the sofa. Julian brought Leo over and placed him gently in Eleanor's arms. The tiny boy looked up at her with wide, hazel eyes, reaching out his small hand to touch the fabric of her sweater.

A single tear slipped down Eleanor's cheek as she held her grandson for the very first time. The cold armor she had worn for decades dissolved into soft, quiet sobs.

"I'm sorry," Eleanor whispered, pulling the baby close against her chest. "I forgot what truly matters."

"We all forget sometimes, Mother," Julian said, placing a hand on her shoulder. "What matters is that we remember in time."
