Chapter 9 - The Hearing
The family court chamber was cold and intimidating. Eleanor Vance sat flanked by three high-powered attorneys, dressed immaculately, her face an unreadable mask of aristocratic resolve. Across the aisle sat Julian and Clara, holding hands under the table, with a young, dedicated legal aid attorney beside them.
The judge called the session to order. Eleanor’s lawyer presented a slick narrative: Clara was unstable, financially insecure, and burdened by a history of corporate fraud.
When it was time for the defense, Julian stood up himself, stepping past his attorney to address the bench directly.

Julian produced the medical records provided by Dr. Sterling, alongside sworn affidavits proving Clara’s innocence in the two-year-old financial frame-up—documents he had quietly retrieved from the company archives before resigning.
