Chapter 15 - Where the Morning Light FallsOn a crisp September morning, Clara walked with Lily along the river boardwalk of the new community center. The water sparkled under the golden early sun, mirroring the boundless sky above.

Lily, now a bright, spirited young girl with Clara’s determined chin and an infectious, ringing laugh, clutched Clara’s hand tightly.

"Mom, did you build all of this?" Lily asked, looking up with her clear, observant hazel eyes.

Clara stopped and knelt down to match her daughter's gaze. She tucked a stray brown curl behind Lily's ear, feeling the steady, miraculous warmth of the child she had sheltered through the darkest night of her existence.

"No, sweetheart," Clara answered with a radiant, peaceful smile. "A whole community built this. But you and I... we gave them the courage to start."

Lily wrapped her arms around Clara’s neck in a fierce, loving embrace. As they walked toward the community pavilion where Marcus, the neighbors, and the morning crowd waited with open doors and warm greetings, the morning light illuminated their path—bright, unbroken, and entirely their own.
