Chapter 10 - The Mother's FuryA sharp metallic sound echoed behind Marcus—the racking of a twelve-gauge shotgun slide.

Elena stepped out from the shadows of the rusted locomotive bay. She had left Noah and the newborn in the secure tower, braving the frozen expanse on sheer will. Her coat was flecked with snow, her face marked with cuts, but her stance was unyielding. The shotgun rested firmly against her shoulder, leveled straight at Marcus’s spine.

"Let go of my son," Elena said, her voice dropping to a terrifying, deadly calm.

Marcus slowly turned his head, his eyes widening slightly. "Elena... you can barely stand. Your ribs are cracked."

"Try me, Marcus," she whispered. "Take one step with him. Just one."

Leo looked up at his mother. The sheer terror in the boy's eyes dissolved into something miraculous—hope. He leaned his head forward and bit down viciously into Marcus’s forearm.

Marcus cursed, his grip loosening in shock. Julian surged forward like a panther, tackling Marcus to the frozen ground as Elena stepped swiftly between her son and the struggle, pulling Leo behind her protective frame and shielding him with her body.
