Chapter 6 - The Rust and Iron LabyrinthThe rail yard appeared out of the blizzard like a graveyard of iron behemoths. Mammoth diesel engines sat frozen on parallel tracks, coated in ice, their steel shells groaning in the sub-zero wind.

Julian cut the headlights fifty yards from the main warehouse. The air inside the vehicle was charged with silent adrenaline.

"Noah, take Elena and Thomas to the eastern watchtower," Julian commanded quietly. "The tower gives you sniper coverage over the main depot door. Do not engage unless you hear three distinct shots."

"Julian, you can't walk into an enclosed kill zone alone," Noah protested, checking the slide on his tactical rifle.

"Marcus doesn't shoot immediately," Julian said, checking his own pocket holster. "He talks. He needs to justify his cruelty before he acts. That gives me time. Elena... look at me."

Elena looked up, her face pale, eyes blazing with maternal anguish.

"I will bring Leo back to your arms," Julian promised. "Trust me."

She squeezed his hand through his leather glove. "Bring him home, Julian. Please."

Julian stepped out into the blizzard. The snow whipped at his face as he walked steadily toward the warehouse entrance, the heavy steel door hanging slightly ajar, illuminated by a solitary sodium light.
